Obituary of Helen Cook
Helen Rykard Cook, 95, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2010. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and caring friend to all who knew her. Helen was born in Greenwood, South Carolina to the late Olin and Odessa Rykard. She is preceded in death by Charles Henry Cook, her loving husband of 55 years. Helen was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Daughters of the Confederacy and Daughters of the American Revolution. In her early years she was a teacher before she married. When her husband went to war during World War II she went back to teaching for a short time. She was an avid bridge player and cat lover. Helen is survived by her daughter Susan (Michael) Christeas; grandchildren Mike (Becca) Christeas Jr., Ashley Christeas and two great-grandchildren, Mike Christeas III and Kaitlyn Haske. Family will receive friends at Arlington Park Cemetery, 6920 Lone Star Road, for a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association of America or Northeast Community Hospice.
