Obituary of Helen LeQuia

Helen Lee Lequia-Kuether passed away peacefully at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville, FL on December 16, 2013 at 2:30 pm at the age of 91 just 11 days short of her 92nd birthday with her husband, Donald and two children, David and Cheryl; and her son's fiance, Jan Orcutt, by her side.

Helen is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Francis J. Lequia of Escanaba, MI, her sister, Nancy Cornila of Dearborn, MI, her nephew, Keith Cornila of Grand Rapids, MI, and her granddaughter, Tricia Lemay of Ballwin, MO.

Helen is survived by her loving husband, Donald Kuether. They met while residing in Spruce Creek Subdivision in Summerfield, FL. The couple loved to do things together such as dance, play cards and golf together amongst other things. They were married in Lady Lake, FL in the North Lake Presbyterian Church 17 years ago.

Helen is most lovingly remembered by her, sister, Gertrude Fulmer of Royal Oak, MI, her son David Lequia and his fianc Jan Orcutt, currently residing in Jacksonville, FL; her daughter, Cheryl Lemay-Bogle and her husband Peter, residing in Ballwin, MO; two grandsons, Christopher Lemay of Eastpointe, MI and Brian Lequia of Saginaw, MI; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Harris-Lemay of Warren, MI , Cody Lemay of Ballwin, MO and Noah Lemay of Ballwin, MO and a great-great grandson, Brayden Christopher Lemay also of Ballwin, MO age 18 months, along with two nephews, Blake and Robbie Fulmer residing in MI and two nieces, Cindy Prell, of Berkley, MI and Diane Cornila-Graham of Conway, New Hampshire.

Helen Lee Alguire was the first of three daughters born to Col. Addison Alguire and Marvel Manilla Alguire in Gladstone, MI on December 27, 1921. During her youth she loved to swim, cross country ski and actually ski jumped! She always loved to dance. She graduated from Gladstone High School in 1938 and went on to the University of Michigan where she studied to be a nurse. Upon leaving college during WWII she followed her high school sweetheart, Francis Lequia, to West Virginia where she worked as a decoder for the US Government. She and Frank married while he served his stint in the Navy. After the War they moved to Ferndale, MI where they spent almost 50 years raising their two children and being pillars in the community.

Helen was dedicated to her children. She became an extraordinary Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader plus performed many services for her children's schools, PTA and the City of Ferndale, MI. She truly enjoyed life. Helen liked sewing, crafts, bowling, golfing and being a part of theatre plays - in all types of modes such as producer, seamstress or set creator - but her passion was to act. She was the lead - "Marion the Librarian" in the Music Man and held many important roles in other Broadway type musicals held at the schools such as South Pacific and No Business Like Show Business.

The memorial service "Celebrating her Life" will be held at North Lake Presbyterian Church, 975 Rolling Acres Road, Lady Lake, FL 32159 on December 28, 2013 at 11:00am with Pastor Dan Baumann officiating. A reception will take place at the same location immediately following the memorial service.
