IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Herbert Eugene
Griffin
August 29, 1925 – September 25, 2024
After a long life of spreading smiles, making friends and sharing laughter, Herbert Eugene Griffin passed away peacefully at home on September 25,2024. Herbert grew up in southern Georgia, the son of Iona and John Griffin. His friendly nature and headstrong enthusiasm led to many childhood adventures. During World War II, Herbert served proudly in the infantry as part of the D-Day invasion. He was injured in battle, earning a Purple Heart. After returning home to Florida, he met the love of his life, Wilma Stinson. They cherished their life together until Wilma's passing. Herbert proudly served 33 years with the United Sates Postal Service. Herbert's zest for life seemed to grow even stronger as he grew older. With his younger brother, Ed, he flew on an Honor Flight for veterans to Washington DC, took a Caribbean cruise, and traveled to the World War II Museum in New Orleans. He even crossed the ocean once again to France for the 70th anniversary of D-Day. He went on all of these adventures after the age of 80! Of course, the constant thread of Herbert's life was his ability to make so many friends everywhere he went. Whether he was strolling through his neighborhood, going daily to Brooks physical therapy; where he was the coffee maker and center of attention, seeking fellowship in church, or walking on the beaches in France, Herbert always carried a smile, a hearty laugh, and joy in his heart. He will be missed by all.
Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Griffin; mother, Iona Griffin; father, John Griffin; brother, Homer Griffin; sister, Margie Ferguson; sister, Lucille Collier; sister Johnnie Moulton; and brother, Edward Griffin. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
