Obituary of Homer Dunnmon

Homer J. Dunnmon, 91, passed away Sunday October 24, 2010 in Jacksonville, FL. Homer was born on September 2, 1919 in Mooresville, NC. Mr. Dunnmon served proudly in The United States Navy and retired after World War II. He was member of The Westside Rotary Club of Jacksonville, FL. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow. Homer worked for Reichhold Chemicals, Inc. for 33 years. He was plant Manager and also one of the Vice Presidents of the company. He loved his job, and all his employees enjoyed working with him. Homer was preceded in death by his father, Frank Dunnmon; his mother, Emma Dunnmon; sister, Myrtle Harris; brother-in-law, Charles Hileman and first wife, Lorraine Daniel Dunnmon. Homer is survived by his loving wife, Jean Kibbons Dunnmon, his very best friend, of 13 and ½ wonderful years in Jacksonville, FL; son, David and his wife Stephania in Bloomington, MN; daughter, Camelle Decker in Jacksonville, FL; step-son, Stephen Kibbons and his wife Lorraine in Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandson, Doug Decker and his wife Samantha in Jacksonville, FL; grandson, Eric Decker and his wife Missy in Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Kelly Dunnmon in Jacksonville, FL; grandson, Michael Dunnmon in Bloomington, MN; step-grandson, Stephen Kibbons II in Orlando, FL; step-granddaughter, Andrea Plant in Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two great granddaughters, Emma and Danielle Decker in Jacksonville, FL and sister-in-law, Doris Hileman in Kannapolis, N.C. along with numerous nieces and nephews. Homer was a huge Gator fan and enjoyed watching the Gator games on TV. He also was a NASCAR enthusiast- he thoroughly enjoyed watching Jeff Gordon make those laps around the track. Homer was loved and respected by everyone that knew him. He and Jean traveled all over Europe, the Middle East, Russia and the Baltic countries. They also took Gambling junkets to Atlantic City, Lake Tahoe, Biloxi, Tunica Mississippi and Connecticut frequently. They also traveled to New York City to see all the sights and also dog sat for Jean's cousin, Diane at Central Park West. On any given Sunday morning you could find Homer and Jean at the American Legion Post 137 enjoying breakfast together with friends. They also shared many happy moments at Tom and Betty's Restaurant on the Westside, where they would meet Betty for a bite to eat. Homer and Jean have had truly wonderful neighbors, they have been so thoughtful and willing to help in any way they can. Homer and Jean had a wonderful life and shared many happy moments together - truly a loving couple. Where you saw one, you always saw the other. Family will receive friends at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211, for a visitation on Thursday, October 28, 2010 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm and a funeral service to follow at 2:00pm. In the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow.
