Obituary

Horace John Kench, of Freesoil, Michigan passed away Friday, May 29th, 2020. He was 89 years old. John, as he preferred, was born in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Horace and Verda (Waltersdorf) Kench.

John loved fishing, hunting, bowling, golfing, watching sports and traveling. He was a man of faith and an active member of the Manistee United Methodist Church. John was also a past Master of his Masonic Lodge three times. He volunteered his time and served his community in various endeavors. He loved music and also played the tub bass.  He also acted in community theater. John proudly served his country in the United States Army.

John is survived by his wife Joyce; children, Michael (Jeannie), Bradley (Alice), Kristy (Michael), and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings; Barb, Mike (Barb), Jim (Billee), Butch (Anne) and Phil (Sue) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his mother Verda and his father Horace Kench.

A committal service for John's ashes will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens (4444 West Grand River Ave, Lansing, MI, 48906) on Friday, June 26th @ 10:30 am.

A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at the Lion's Pavilion (1st Street Beach Manistee, MI, 49660) on Saturday, June 27 @ 11 am. This will be an outdoor event, so please bring chairs if you would like to sit.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations please be made to the Manistee United Methodist Church (387 1st St, Manistee, MI 49660)
