Obituary

Irene Zelia (Shemones) Capizzi, age 87, born in New York City and longtime resident of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away on April 2, 2025, in Alabama, where she had been living with her daughter in recent years.

Throughout her life, she was known for cooking and hosting Italian meals in her home for family and friends and was affectionately known as Noni.

She worked as a banker at American National Bank and was deeply involved in her community through Christ the King Catholic Church and as a member of the KC's in Jacksonville, Fla.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Capizzi, and sisters, Ruth Ciesla and Elizabeth Linton.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her son, Michael Capizzi Jr.; daughter, Doreen Masters; her grandchildren—Lt. Col. Michael Masters Jr., Matthew Masters, Christopher Capizzi, Anthony Capizzi, and Rebecca Kaye. She also has three cherished great-granddaughters—Lillian, Ava, and Layla Masters.

Her legacy lives on in the love she shared and the memories she created with family and friends.

An open viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 8, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a rosary prayer service from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Arlington Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at Arlington Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 9, at 11 a.m., immediately following the service internment will take place at Arlington Park Cemetery.

The family requests that flowers be sent directly to Arlington Park Funeral Home in honor of her memory.
