Isobel Balfour Mayfield, 83, of Jacksonville, FL passed away March 14, 2018. The daughter of the late David and Margaret Balfour was born on January 20, 1935 in Lakeland, FL. Isobel graduated from Florida State University earning a degree in Business in 1955. She worked for Prudential Insurance Company leaving to raise her children. Later attended Jacksonville University to earn her teaching certificate; becoming an elementary school teacher in Duval County retiring after 16 years. Isobel was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville. She was also a founding member of Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church, which started with weekly meetings in her home. She served as the first Moderator of the Presbyterian Women at their new church. Isobel wore many hats at the Hodges Boulevard church and served as a bible study leader, organized the first nursery and first vacation bible school. In addition, Isobel was a member of the choir and served as a Deacon. Isobel was presented with an Honorary Lifetime Membership with the Presbyterian Women to recognize her contributions. Being with her family brought her the greatest joy and was happiest when all were together. Loved keeping up with her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter and so proud of them all. Isobel was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lamar Mayfield Jr. She will be missed by her brother Bob (Dawn) Balfour, of Atlanta, GA. and her four children, Jim Mayfield (Susan) of Kansas City, MO, Dori McCormack (Doug) of Hebron, CT, Ken Mayfield (Diane) of Jacksonville, FL and Margaret Powers (Steve) of Orange Park, FL. She leaves 9 grandchildren and one great grandchild, Rachel (Kyle) Tucker, Daniel and Emma McCormack, Mitchell, Andy and Ben Mayfield, Kirby, Courtney and Phillip Powers, Cordelia Isobel Mayfield.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 4140 Hodges Boulevard, Jacksonville FL, 32224. A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 14, 2018 at 11:30 am at Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 4140 Hodges Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32224.
