Obituary

James L. Duduit
September 17, 1929 – May 24, 2020

Loving husband, faithful father, beloved business leader. Jacksonville resident James L. "Jim"
Duduit lived a full and productive 90 years before entering the presence of the Lord at home on
May 24. Born in Oconee, Illinois, Jim was the son of James Harold and Lela Neece Duduit.
During World War II, a teenaged Jim delivered mail in his rural community, then started his own
trucking business before entering the US Army during the Korean conflict. Jim became a
military policeman (MP) and advanced to the rank of corporal before leaving the service and
returning to his native Illinois to farm, then manage a poultry processing plant.
In 1962 Jim and his family moved to Merritt Island, Florida, where he entered the insurance
industry as a salesman, quickly advancing to become one of the top ten sales professionals in his
company. Over the next decade he successfully climbed the ranks of sales and management in
the insurance industry, until – through the suggestion of a good friend – he became involved with
a local printing company. In 1972 he founded Continental Printing Company in the Arlington
area, which grew to become one of the more successful printing companies in the Jacksonville
area, serving a number of leading North Florida businesses and organizations. He continued to
lead Continental until selling the company in 2008 and entering retirement.
Jim became a Christian and served many leadership roles in various churches in Illinois and
Florida. Since 1967, Jim was a member of Arlington Baptist Church, and was one of the
founders of the Arlington Baptist Trailblazers, the senior adult ministry of the church. He
worked with his son, Michael, to establish Preaching magazine in 1985; today Michael serves as
Dean of the College of Christian Studies at Anderson University in Anderson, SC.
In 1990 Jim married Shirley Gerganous and became part of a large, loving family in the
Jacksonville area. Shirley had been a vital part of the Continental Printing leadership team, and
she became a precious life partner for Jim. For many years they enjoyed boating on the St. Johns
River where they had their home.

James is predeceased by his brother, Virgil, who passed away in 2014; and daughter,
Mary Shannon who passed away in March 2020.

He is survived by his loving wife Shirley; son Michael and his wife
Laura; two grandsons, James and Stephen; grandchildren, Mike, Michelle and Jeff through his
daughter Mary; stepsons, Barry Knight and Mitch Gerganous; and a loving family of
grandchildren through his wife Shirley.
