Obituary

James David Lassiter passed away peacefully while in hospice care on July 23rd, 2024 in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. James, known to friends and family as Jim or Jimmy, was born on October 25th, 1931 in Raleigh North Carolina to parents Otha Nicholas Lassiter and Katie Jones Lassiter. Jim was a successful business owner & entrepreneur, as well as a U.S. Army veteran. Upon retirement from the business world in the early 1990's, Jim took up golf, which soon became one of his greatest passions. Jim had an infectious smile and made new friends wherever he went. North Carolina was in his DNA and his love for his birth state never diminished. Jim is predeceased by his loving wife, Claudine Boals Lassiter, his two brothers, Richard C. & Nick Lassiter, his sister Jane Lassiter Freeman, brother-in-law George Kirby Freeman, and his nephew George Kirby Freeman III. He is survived by his son, Charles Gill, his daughter-in-law Carla Gill, his granddaughter Amanda Gill, nephews Richard C. Lassiter, Thomas Raine Freeman and James McNeill Freeman, and nieces Mary Gail Freeman, Cherie Lassiter, Heidi Lassiter Ackley , Mandy Lassiter Sweeney, Mary Catherine Lassiter Grimm, and Julie Lassiter. Jim lived a long and blessed life and will be sorely missed by all those who loved him.

There will be an informal memorial service on Saturday, August 24th 2024 at 1:00 P.M. with a private burial afterwards at 2:00 P.M. at: Montlawn Memorial & Woodlawn Memorial Park – 2911 S. Wilmington St. – Raleigh, NC 27603.
