Obituary of James Long

James "Shorty" Long, longtime basketball official and inductee into the Jacksonville Sports Hall of Fame, died peacefully on thurday, December 15th with his children at his side. Born December 18, 1920 in Griffin, GA, "Shorty" is survived by his sister, Evelyn Black of Jonesboro, GA; Daughters Jamie Murray and Sandra Creaney; Son Wayne; grandchildren, Erin, Brennan, Casey and several nieces and nephews. "Shorty" was a well known Jacksonville sports personality and played major league baseball with the Yankees in 1951. Visitation will be held on his birthday Sunday December 18th from 2-4pm at Arlington Park Funeral Home 6920 Lone Star Rd. Funeral Service will be on Monday December 19th at 12:00 noon in the Chapel. Interment will be in Arlington Park Cemetery.
