Obituary of James Van Meter
James Lee Van Meter, "Pa Pa", 79, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away May 11, 2009. He was born on March 23, 1930 in Covington, KY, and preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Josephine Van Meter and siblings Celeste, Charles and Thomas. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and following his service he earned a Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Cincinnati. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel and an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Aide-De-Camp in the Alabama State Militia. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenton County Boys Club and a member of the Kiwanis Club. Jim was a proud member and usher of Christ the King Church since 1981. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy of 56 years and 5 children; Barbara and Joe Justice, Jeff Van Meter, Greg and Nancy Jo Van Meter, Margie and Jim McMurry, Tracy and Scott Nyman. In addition, he is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2009 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Arlington Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, May 15, 2009, at Christ the King Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pa Pa's name to Christ the King Catholic Church.
