Janet Obrien Carter, age 83 who was born February 24,1936 passed away peacefully July 26, 2019 in Jacksonville, Florida surrounded by her family. Janet was born and raised in Saltville, Virginia. She graduated from Bristol Commercial Business College and married her high school sweetheart Don Carter in 1962. They moved to Florida in 1969. Janet dedicated her life to not only being a loving mother and wife but to caring for many children in the neighborhood. At times she had up to 16 children in her home. She provided low cost childcare to working families in need and her greatest joys came from providing for the kids that depended on her so much throughout the years. She will always be remembered for her unwavering and unconditional love.

Janet was preceded in death by her grandfather Charles Ferris and mother Isabell Call.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, William (Don) Carter; three children: Cindy Hurdle [Anthony], Monica Dalton, Glenna McCoy [Joe]; 5 grandchildren: Crystal Marsh [Philip], Whitney Dalton, Autumn Cummings, Cameron Hurdle, Hunter McCoy; and 8 great children.
