Jay Stephen Nelson, 69, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on March 20, 2026. Born in Jacksonville, he was the son of the late Billy Nelson and Mildred Nelson. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Faith Wheeler, his sister Jeanne Nelson, and his brother Paul Nelson.
Jay graduated from Sandalwood High School in 1975 and served in the U.S. Army as a medic from 1976–1978. He loved drawing, playing guitar, writing and performing music, and most of all his family. Nothing meant more to him than his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, and his dog Tink.
He is survived by his brother Alan Nelson (Debbie), nieces and nephews Erin, Lynn (ALLEN), Tori Lowry (Scott), and great-nephews Christopher Lynn, Kayden Lowry, Mason Lowry; brother John Nelson (Diane); sister Martha Nelson (Kelli) and her son Joshua Nelson; and the family of his late brother Paul Nelson (Janet): nephew Justin, youngest nephew Bradley, niece Amanda Hendrickson, nieces Amber and Trish, great-nephews Brandon, Jordan, and Noah, and great-nieces Zoe and Madison.
He is also survived by his children Kimberly Pitts (Tommy), Monday Foureau Winkler (Richard), and Jason Foureau Sr. (Melissa); grandchildren John Washburn, Summer Washburn, Trey Winkler, Macy Winkler, Jason Foureau Jr., Maverick Foureau, and Aliea Long; and great-grandchildren Amelia Washburn, Aubrey Morefield, Bryce Gordon, Arabella Long, Arionna Winkler, Adilynn Wise, Ace Winkler, Cade Winkler, Faithlynn Foureau, Lennox Foureau, Hazel Ruble, and Macee Foureau.
Services will be held at Arlington Park Cemetery on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
