Jennie Elder Davenport, age 89, daughter of Ansel M. and Bessie Jones Elder, born November 30, 1926 in Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully at Bartram Lakes Assisted Living Center in Jacksonville, February 9, 2016.

Mrs. Davenport was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Brevard College and Florida State University. She met her husband, Ted, while attending Brevard College. After graduation from FSU she worked as a social worker in Deland. She was a homemaker and in later years she was a kindergarten teacher. She and Ted lived in Miami, Dallas, Waco and, Lake Charles, returning to Jacksonville in 1964. Mrs. Davenport was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority while attending FSU. She remained an active alumna, serving as Providence President for the sorority 1976-1978. A very special time in her life was enjoying their summer home in South Ponte Vedra Beach. Mrs. Davenport cherished her Christian faith, her family, the beach and all things in nature. She was also an avid painter using various mediums showcasing her beloved beach. Mrs. Davenport was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Arlington for 50 years, serving as President of The United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by: her husband of 65 years, Ted Davenport; a son, Stephen Davenport and her brother Richard V. Elder. .

Mrs. Davenport is survived by: a son, Robert Elliott Davenport of Ormond Beach; a daughter, Janet Davenport Westbrook of Peachtree City, Georgia; daughters-in-law, Christine Marston Davenport and Barbara Welch Davenport; and a son-in-law, Jeff L. Westbrook. She is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will take place at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 8264 Lone Star Rd, Jacksonville on March 5, 2016 at 11:00. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Food Ministries.
