Joan Titus Herbanek (nee; Joan Louise Titus) was called to her home in Christ early on January 5, 2022 after a 5 month battle with Pancreatic Cancer, just prior to her 91st birthday. Joan was preceded in death by her oldest Son, Jeffrey Alan Herbanek at age 31 (December 1986) and her 71 year old husband of 43 years, Andrew Robert Herbanek (July 1996).
Joan was born to Donald Francis and Marion Yoder Titus in Flushing (Queens), Long Island, NY in January 1931. The family moved to Havertown, PA (Philadelphia suburb) when Joan was around 3 years old and she graduated Haverford High School in 1949. Joan had two siblings (1942), twin (fraternal) brothers Don and Dave, the latter of whom just passed away 8 days after Joan, at the age of 79.
Joan enrolled at Swarthmore College in the fall of 1949, prior to transferring to the Pennsylvania State University in 1950. As a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, she met the love of her life, WWII veteran Andy, at a Phi Kappa Sigma social. I actually have a hand written letter (on fraternity stationary), dated October 9, 1950, by a fraternity brother (president?) of Dad's, describing his elation the night he offered her to wear his fraternity pin! It is plain and beautifully written, painting a picture of a young couple in love during the era we refer to as "the 50s".
Joan graduated with a degree in Home Economics in 1952, and the two wed that summer, on August 23, 1952. She spent the rest of her life as homemaker, wife, and mother of two boys; Jeff, born August 1955 and Ron, born December 1958. In 2010 she moved from her Jacksonville, FL home of 41 years (two different houses), and re-located within a mile of her only living Son in Fort Bend County, TX. There she took part in the lives and late childhood of her two loving Grandsons, Travis (1994) and Tyler (1996), without missing a football game, Boy Scout Court of Honor, or school program.
Although the family mourns her departure, we celebrate in the knowledge that she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is in good company. No person, thing, or force will ever cause her pain again, and that is how she wanted to leave this world. So, until we meet again "on the other side", know that we love you Mom!
Arrangements have been entrusted to the direction and care of Arlington Park Funeral Home.
