Obituary

Ms. Joan G. Williams entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Joan was born in Monticello, Florida, to the late Howard Green and Laura Mae Green. She attended and graduated from school in Jefferson County, Florida, and later moved to Jacksonville, FL, in 1966, where she became a cherished member of the community.

Joan had a deep love for the Lord and was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church Downtown, where she lovingly served in the nursery. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she spent her days nurturing others with kindness and compassion.

After 24 years of dedicated service, Joan retired from The International Longshoremen Association Local 1408. Upon retirement, she devoted much of her time to her family, especially her grandkids, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Joan was known for her warm, loving nature, and her family was her greatest joy. She also enjoyed traveling, dining out, and creating lasting memories with her sister and friends during her retirement years.

Joan had a love for cooking, and her famous dressing became a beloved dish at family gatherings. She also had a passion for dogs and loved the simple pleasures of life, including enjoying blue crabs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Green and Laura Mae Green; her grandmothers, Nancy Green-Reid and Maggie Williams; and her grandfathers, Milton Green and Elijah Williams.

Joan leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her loving daughter, Mia Hobdy of Jacksonville, FL; two grandsons, Austin Hobdy and Mason Hobdy, both of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Jacqueline Swain of Jacksonville, FL; three nephews, Domonique Torrence (Susan), Damian Swain (Michelle), and Michael Swain; six grandnieces, Danyelle, Armonii, Drew, Dallas, Dicyn, and Denim; two grandnephews, Michael Jr., Domonique Jr., and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.

Joan was a long time donor to the ASPCA, with a special affinity for small dogs. May she be reunited with Gigi and Elmo in heaven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ASPCA in the name of Ms. Joan Williams, in honor of her love for animals.

Memorial donations can be made online at : Secure.aspca.org/donate/memorial or by calling  800-628-0028

Joan's love, faith, and joy for life will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
