Rev. John P. Jackson was a man of great contrasts. While small in stature he was able to leave a large imprint on the lives he touched.
He was born on October 11, 1938 the only child of Walter "Putt" and Gertrude Jackson in Chicago, Illinois. Jack, as his friends called him, grew up in northwest Indiana. He was equal parts devoted son, loyal friend, honorable soldier, loving husband, caring father, intelligent teacher and wise pastor.
After serving in the army, Jack worked in blue collar jobs like steel mill worker and postal carrier in Indiana. While starting his family, he went back to school to earn a degree in Education. He worked successfully as an educator in Indiana schools.
Jack then embarked on a new career in the pastoral ministry serving churches in Louisiana and Alabama for over 20 years. He lived a life of great faith, service, devotion and kindness for his fellow man. Always available to help and serve his parishioners, whenever the local hospitals saw a Lutheran was admitted they knew that soon Pastor Jack would be there.
Dedicated to his family Pastor Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years Judy, sons Rodney and Craig and Rodney's wife Karen and their children Rachel and Aaron.
Pastor Jack helped and inspired those he touched through his kindness, wisdom and his faith and leaves a legacy of devotion to God and people.
