Obituary of John Kolb

Our hearts are heavy as we announce the passing of John Peter Kolb, Jr. He was a beloved Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Uncle. Born on January 4, 1929 in Queens Village, NY and passing into Glory in Jacksonville, FL on August 17, 2011, at the age of 82. He is preceded in death by his parents John Peter Kolb Sr., and Grace Johnson Kolb. He is survived by 3 Daughters, Joan Porey of Patchogue, NY, Dorothy Holley of Lakeland, FL and Esther Skinner of Jacksonville, FL; 3 Brothers, Robert Kolb of Zephyrhills, FL, James Kolb of Flushing, NY, William Kolb of Greensboro, NC; 2 sisters, Grace Gallagher of Sylva, NC, and Miriam Hass of Floral Park, NY. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grand child and multiple nieces and nephews. He was an experienced electrical designer & engineer working for many companies during his career most notably NBC at Rockefeller Center in New York City. He was also a longtime engineer at Fairchild Camera in Syosset NY where he designed the cameras for the space program and Grumman's LEM Lunar Landing Craft. He lived in the family home in New York City until moving to Jacksonville in early 2009. While in Jacksonville he enjoyed driving up and down the Florida and Georgia coast line, exploring the area. His body will rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery but we find comfort in knowing his eternal home is in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and we will be reunited with him in Glory. The family is asking, in lieu of flowers, that written stories and memories of our beloved father be sent to the address listed below or posted on this website, for retrieval and preservation for future generations. Due to the swiftness of God's calling him home and the desire to allow time for the whole family to gather, a memorial service is being planned for October 2011 at First Coast Christian Center in Jacksonville, FL. The exact date will be made available as soon as it is determined. The family would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind words, thoughts and prayer during this difficult time.
