Obituary of John Lewis
John Shelton Lewis, 78, passed away March 11, 2015 under the care of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. He was an only child born to Edith and John Lewis in Brooklyn, NY on September 11, 1936. He was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology and a member of Lambda Chi fraternity. He honorably served in the United States Army for six years. John began his employment career in Georgia as a sales representative for Ethicon (a Johnson and Johnson subsidiary). He relocated to Jacksonville in 1965. After several years with Ethicon, he started and operated a successful medical equipment supply business that covered the state of Florida for years. After retiring, he joyfully served the City of Jacksonville Sheriff's Office as a bailiff for six years. His hobbies included being an avid gun collector, discussing military history and cooking. John is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Virginia; his son, John (Colleen) Lewis; his daughter, Terre (Mike) Herro; his step daughter, Deborah (Jeff) Kujala, along with 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. The family will receive friends for a Visitation Gathering 4PM-7PM, Monday, March 16, 2015 in the chapel of the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will begin 7PM, Monday, March 16, 2015 also in the chapel of the funeral home.
