IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Wallace
Ranes
October 13, 1921 – November 10, 2019
John Wallace Ranes, age 98, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019.
He was born in a small town in Arizona close to the Mexico border. John graduated from High School in late 1930. He enrolled in the University of Arizona where he completed one year before enlisting into the U.S. Navy. While on leave, he attended a USO dance and he met his love, the late Dotty. They married shortly after the end of WWII. He then returned with his wife to his beloved University of Arizona where he graduated with honors with a BS in economics. He loved the University of Arizona Wildcats, and was proud of his alma mater.
Before relocating to Baltimore, MD, he and his wife moved to many different places while serving in the Navy. One of their fondest memories was their time spent in Bermuda.
During their more than 60 years of marriage, the couple had two amazing children; their late son and a daughter.
John served in the Navy for more than 40 years. He retired as a Commander from the Naval Reserves in the early 1980s. He earned many honors and distinctions while in the Navy, but he was most proud of receiving a Purple Heart.
He is preceded in death by his mom, dad, wife, and son. He is survived by his daughter, son-in-law, daughter- in-law, two granddaughters, and one great-grandson.
