Obituary of John Grier

John King Rusty Grier, Jr., beloved husband of Sherry White Grier, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2008 at the age of 60. Rusty was born and raised in Tallahassee before moving to Jacksonville in 1981. He enjoyed a rewarding career as a Registered Nurse and was much beloved by his many patients over the years. Rusty will be remembered for his devotion to his cats; Boo Boo, Sam and Marcy Dee, and for his love of bird watching, gardening and trains. He was also an avid FSU Seminole booster.

Rusty drew comfort from the faith and teachings of the great Indian guru Paramhansa Yogananda.

In addition to his wife Sherry, Rusty is survived by his sister Kathy Grier Snyder of Athens, Georgia; his brother David Grier of Washington, D.C., his brother-in-law David White of Covington, Georgia, and his beloved nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends. The family has planned a private celebration of Rustys life at their cherished St. Georges Island in the near future. Donations to Northeast Florida Community Hospice are requested in lieu of flowers.

The self is never born nor does it die. Existing once, it does not cease to be.
