Obituary of John Sanford

John Sanford "Shorty" passed away peacefully April 19, 2009. In MacClenny, Florida. He was born March 8, 1929 to Bessie and Fred Sanford in Bennettsville, South Carolina. He lived in Fitzgerald, Georgia until 1949 when he and the family moved to Jacksonville, Florida.

John is preceded in death by his sister Betty Jean. He worked for the city of Jacksonville for 40 years until he retired in 1992. John was an avid NASCAR fan and attended races every week at Jacksonville raceways. He had a great sense of humor and always managed to lighten hearts with his rhymes and funny stories. John will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife Frances; son William; grandson James; one great granddaughter; brothers Lee Roy and Fred Sanford; sisters Dorothy Pearce and Marie Miller, as well as nieces and nephews.

John was a member of North view Baptist Church for many years. Rev. Brooks Monk will officiate the service at Arlington Park Funeral Home Chapel, 6920 Lone Star Road, Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery.
