Joseph B. (JB) Ulch passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025 at the age of 93. JB was born on the family farm in Benton County, Iowa on March 17, 1931. After graduation from Belle Plaine High School in 1948, JB farmed with his father until March 1951 when he enlisted in the Navy for 4 years during the Korean conflict. He met Edna Ruth Daniel while both served at Naval Base San Diego. They were married in St. Pete, FL on December 7, 1953, and moved to Jacksonville in 1955 after JB's discharge from the Navy.

JB went to work for Prudential Insurance Company in February 1956 and worked there for an amazing 63 years. Initially, he worked in the South Central Home Office in Jacksonville and later became a Prudential agent. After taking an early retirement in 1991, JB remained with Prudential as an agent emeritus and continued working until 2019. He was also active in leading the local Prudential Employees Retirement Club (PERC) for 13 years. JB enjoyed many years in the solitude of his 5 acres of land on Jacksonville's Southside where his many beloved animals and penchant for gardening gave him great joy.

JB was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Ruth Ulch and sister Joyce Coffin of Belle Plaine, IA. He is survived by daughters Barbara Ulch (Lori) of Jacksonville and Susan (Bob) O'Brien of Fort Pierce, Fl; two grandsons, Michael and Brandon O'Brien; sister Janyce (Howard) Pohlmann of Keystone, IA, and brother Terry (Gloria) Ulch of Belle Plaine, IA; numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks from the family to the staff at Discovery Village at Deerwood and Vitas Hospice for looking after JB.

A private service will be held for the family. It was JB's wish that any memorial tributes be considered as a donation to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
