Obituary of Josie Messer

Josie Poppell Messer, age 88 daughter of Elbert Virgil Poppell and Annie Lenora Poppell, passed away on June 22, 2015 on her 68th year wedding anniversary to her forever loved husband Russell M Messer who preceded her in death in 1998. Josie was born in Perry, Florida on November 30, 1926.

A Graduate of Florida College School for Women (FSU) in 1947, as well as receiving a Master's Degree from Jacksonville University, Josie was a life long teacher in the Jacksonville area. Josie taught many years at Terry Parker High School, Jacksonville, Florida. Josie was also a member of Arlington Baptist Church for many years. After retirement, she and Russell enjoyed many years of travel thorough out the country. After the death of her much loved husband in 1998, Josie relocated to the Tampa Florida area to be near family where she will be dearly missed. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Josie was proceeded in death by her husband, Russell M Messer and her sister, Annie Jane Poppell. She is survived by her brother Elbert Poppell of San Diego, California, loving children Philip Messer, Candace (Scott) Stewart, grand children Timothy Stewart, Jennifer (John) Lopez and Matthew Stewart, great grandchildren Kiley Lopez and Laney Lopez.

A Celebration of Her Life will be held at graveside on Tuesday, June 30th at 1pm at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32211
