IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judy
Strickland
February 9, 1948 – October 6, 2020
Judy Carol Hunter Strickland, 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. She was born February 9, 1948 in Waycross, Georgia to Edward Lee Hunter and Jean Carolyn Hooks. Due to her father's early passing, David Hooks, the "father she never had" and strong Christian man, stepped in and became a blessing to the whole family.
She graduated from Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. She married Emory Clinton Strickland on June 28, 1969 at Southside Assembly of God in a double ceremony officiated by Reverend Dale C. Zink. Just one year into their new marriage they adopted Craig, and in April of 1971, Scott was born. Judy was faithful to her church, Southside Assembly of God, and was the receptionist for many years. Over the decades of being members of Southside Assembly, she and Clinton made many life-long friends.
Judy loved making and collecting porcelain dolls. She also loved crafting and doing hand drawings. She was also an avid genealogist and assisted several close friends and family in tracing their family histories as well. Judy enjoyed travelling with Clinton to the mountains and their annual Spring Break trip with the grandkids, Brandon and Chloe (and honorary grandchild, Chandler). She also enjoyed maintaining her relationship with friends afar on Facebook. Her heart also went out in prayer, financial, and material (toys, art supplies, and clothing) support to Philip Cameron Ministries and his Orphans Hands program in Moldova.
Judy was a devoted and faithful wife, a loving mother and sister, and a born-again Christian. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Hunter and Carolyn Hooks; along with David Hooks and her in-laws, Emory Strickland, Sr. and Marion Strickland.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Emory Clinton Strickland, Jr.; Sisters, Pam Thompson and Lee Durbin; Brother-in-law, Art Strickland and Sister-in-law, Janice Strickland; Sons, Craig Strickland (Stephanie) and Scott Strickland (Tara). Her two grandchildren, Brandon and Chloe Strickland; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 19, 2020 at 10am Arlington Park Funeral Home Chapel, 6920 Lone Star Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32211. Funeral will immediately follow at 11am with Bishop Paul Zink officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make a tax-deductible donation to The Orphans Hands in Judy's name at https://www.theorphanshands.org/give/
