IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenya Messina
Hadden
December 14, 1935 – June 21, 2023
Kenya Messina Hadden, born originally December 14th, 1935, from Samana
Dominican Republic, came over to the United States in 1957. She died peacefully, in the early
morning on Wednesday June 21, 2023, at the age of 87, in her bedroom with her daughter Susie
and son in law Mike, lovingly by her side.
Kenya was married to the late Thomas Hadden when she originally came over to this country.
They had one child.
She is the beloved daughter of Pedro and Natividad Messina. Siblings: Fanny and Amaury have
since passed. She is survived by her sister Magaly O'Donnell, who presently lives in
Savannah, Ga. And her daughter, Susie Capps. Cherished by her grandchildren, Timothy and
Thomas Ross and between them both, 5 great grandchildren. As well as her nieces and nephews.
She was adored by her loving daughter Susie and her son-in-law Mike Capps. They both cared
for all her needs for the last 3 years in their home in Daytona Beach, Florida. Her life here was
full and joyful; with all the love that was continually poured out to her from all her neighbors and
friends that she had made here in Daytona Beach.
Mom mastered the English language and became an American citizen in the mid- 60's. She
attended Jones College and graduated with a Bachelor of Clerical Education.
Some of the things that I treasured when I was younger, was working summers alongside my
mother at a local screen shop. Making aluminum window screens. We would also hang
wallpaper together. Many times, it was a Lucille Ball moment. One of her favorite possessions
was her car, a 1968 Shelby GT 500KR. She drove like a race car driver pealing out and leaving
rubber intentionally on most occasions.
Mom and her partner became successful entrepreneurs with a rental management company.
Because of their success they were given the opportunity to travel the world. From the Great
wall of China to the bullfights in Spain, to riding the gondolas in Venice, to Japan, and
everywhere else imaginable.
Mom loved to play guitar, sing and be the D.J. She had a beautiful singing voice and would
captivate everyone. Mom's love for music kept family and friends connected throughout the
years with countless celebrations of song and dance.
She is a gem that will never be replaced. Kenya, Mom, we miss you already. God bless you.
With all our love.
