Klara Schlinkmann, 93, of Jacksonville Florida passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2016. Klara was born in Germany to a family that was well known for the breads that they sold in their bakery. Klara met her future husband, Richard Schlinkmann, when she was working the counter in that bakery. They were soon married and had a family. In 1955 they courageously moved to the US (Jacksonville), speaking no English, with two small children, Renate and Richard. Soon the entire family had picked up the English language and Klara and her husband were working and contributing to their community.
For several years, Klara worked at Christ the King Catholic Church where she ran the household, cooking for resident and visiting priests. Later, Klara worked in the claims department of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida where she retired after many years of service.
Klara was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Schlinkmann (Jacksonville). She is survived by her children: Renate and Friedel Dahlhoff (Germany), Richard and Ellen Schlinkmann (Jacksonville); grandchildren: Mike and Heike Dahlhoff (Germany), Denise Dahlhoff (Philadelphia), Steffi and Daniel Moge (Germany); and five great grandchildren.
During her early years in Jacksonville, Klara was active in the German American Club and the Overseas Women's Club, where she was president for several years. Klara was always kind and generous and made friends everywhere she went. She was thoughtful and considerate and had a knack for making people feel welcomed. She will be greatly missed.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, July 1, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Fr. James R. Boddie officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NE FL Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
