Obituary of Leon Graves

Leon Graves, 81, passed away on June 9, 2015. He was born in Orange City, Florida, to Constance and Leon Hadley Graves. He grew up in DeLand and graduated from DeLand High School in 1952, where he was active in sports and President of the Hi-Y.

Following his freshman year at the University of Florida he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was married to Virginia "Ginny" Sullivan and they returned to the UofF after he was discharged from the Army. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from the College of Journalism and Communications.

In 1960, they moved to Jacksonville, where he was briefly employed at GMAC. He was a Trust Auditor for Barnett Banks for 15 years, headed the Trust Auditing Division of Florida National Banks, and was a charter member of the National Institute of Internal Auditors, and an active member of the National Board of Advisors for Certified Trust Auditors. He lectured at the Florida Banker's Association Trust School at the University of Florida.

A devoted father and husband, he loved being with his family. An avid Gator fan, he also enjoyed class reunions with his high school "Crew of '52".

"Lee" is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ginny; his daughters Kathi Mitchelson (Pete) and Kristi Green (Mike); a son, Michael; a sister, Marilyn Fowler; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his brother, Jack Graves and beloved canine companion, Sunny.

He was a loyal friend who cared deeply for those in need and always wanted to help. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice or The Salvation Army.

A Celebration of Life will begin 2PM, Thursday, June 18, 2015 in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Larry Shields of Arlington Methodist Church officiating.
