Linda Evans Waarum, affectionately known as "Coach Linda," passed away on May 5, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on January 29, 1945, in Newark, New Jersey, but a Jacksonville resident at a young age, she was the beloved daughter of the late Otto Evans and Ruth May.

A woman of heart, strength, and vision, Linda dedicated much of her life to empowering others—especially through her deep love for swimming. In the late 1970s, her passion led her to found a Special Olympics swim team, Her tireless commitment to her athletes and promoting people with differences earned her the love and respect of generations who knew her affectionally  as "Coach Linda".

Linda was also an avid sports fan with an unmatched enthusiasm for Florida State University, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the timeless music of Elvis Presley. Whether cheering from the stands or dancing to Elvis, she brought joy and energy into every room she entered. Above all, she took the greatest pride in being a mother and a dedicated swim coach.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, one brother, her husband, and one daughter.

Linda leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration. She is survived by one son, one daughter, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one step-son, four step-grandchildren, and a host of extended family members who will forever cherish her memory.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Arlington Park Funeral Home.
