IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lonnie Lockhart
Portwood
July 19, 1941 – August 7, 2021
Our loving Lonnie Lockhart Portwood, born July 19, 1941, age 80, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021. Survived by his high school sweetheart, Johnnie Faye Mack Portwood, with whom he spent 60 beautiful years of joy and happiness. He was also survived by son, Keith Lonnie Portwood, and daughter, Penny Lynn Portwood Ackerman and her husband Thomas Duane, and his only and favorite grandchildren, Sara Lynae Ackerman and Kyle Thomas Ackerman and wife Ashtin, and great-grandson's Hagen James and soon to join us Stetson Duane. His memory will be carried on through many other surviving family members, friends, and loved ones, all of whom brought him so much joy.
Lonnie enjoyed life to the fullest; traveling, fishing, hunting, etc., but most of all through music, which was his passion. He always said that:
"Music is probably the most spiritual of mankind's emotions and when practiced with a pure heart can lead one into the presence of God who created it."
He was talented from the time he could breathe and found out, in his earliest years, that he had a bond with the beautiful instrument called a guitar. He has blessed so many people over the years with his talents, but most of all he played to glorify God. Some of his best playing came in the small living room of his home when he would just get lost in meditation and the melodies would just seem to flow out from his fingers. We will miss that terribly.
Lonnie loved God above all things, his family and friends, and his country. Just after high school he served in the United States Army for several years. He worked in many different fields during his 80 years, having skills ranging from mechanics, construction, music, to just about anything else you can imagine. An above average Do It Yourselfer. He worked in the insurance field for many years as a broker and instructor; and was an accomplished entrepreneur of several different businesses for most of his adult years.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his father Robert Feilding Portwood and his mother Myrtle Adell Lockhart Portwood, brother Rollie Portwood, and Sister Carol Berry. Those left to cherish his memories are his brother, Glenn Portwood and wife Carole, sisters, Margaret McGowan and Frances Stroud, sister-in-law Bobbie Portwood, and a large family of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Lonnie was one of a kind and loved by everyone who really knew him. He would do anything in the world for you, "within reason", and made an impression on everyone with whom he met. He was truly a remarkable man that will be missed by so many.
Save a song for us…. We'll see you again one day!
