IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorine Moore
Kelley
April 7, 1936 – August 3, 2025
Ms. Lorine Moore Kelley, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on April 7, 1936, in Barnwell County, South Carolina, she was the cherished daughter of the late Richard and Daisy Simmons.
A woman of remarkable strength and spirit, Lorine lived a vibrant life filled with color—literally and figuratively. Known for her love of bright and bold colors, she carried a strong will and an unforgettable presence. Her words were often few but powerful, leaving lasting impressions on those fortunate enough to know her.
Lorine spent 40 meaningful years in Cleveland, Ohio, before returning to Jacksonville, Florida, where she lived out her later years. She enjoyed life's simple pleasures: eating crabs, bargaining at flea markets and thrift stores, and listening intently to her police scanner. Her memory was sharp, her laughter contagious, and her love for elephants was well known to those closest to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lester Moore; her second husband, Oscar Kelley; one son, Lester Moore, Jr.; one daughter, Gwendolyn Moore; two brothers, Clarence Simmons and Joe Simmons; and two sisters, Uretha Griffin and Mary Meredith.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience through her surviving family: two daughters, Linda Moore and Jackie Moore; five granddaughters, Shontell Moore, Deminka Robinson, Janielle Moore, Ngozi Chuku, and Nnenda Chuku; two grandsons, Lester Moore III and Majeed Moore; seven great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives who will miss her dearly.
Ms. Lorine Moore Kelley will be remembered not only for her vibrant personality and colorful spirit but also for the meaningful life she lived and the love she gave so freely.
