Lucy Elzira Jensen "Sandy", 88, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 20, 2019 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born in Columbus, Ohio to Mary Eloise Dermid on February 7, 1931.
She co-founded a highway construction company, Jensen of Jacksonville, in 1967 with her husband Ernest. After Ernest's death in 1988, she continued to grow the business. In her words " A woman in a man's world". She was a board member of The Associated General Contractors of Northeast Florida (AGC) and served one term as president.She was a board member of The Associated General Contractors of Northeast Florida (AGC) and served one term as president. She was the first woman to be a board member of the Florida Transportation Builders Association (FTBA) and served one term as the Chairman.
She received recognition and many industry awards during her distinguished career. In 2012 she was inducted into FTBA's Hall of Fame. Her hobbies included traveling, knitting and scrapbooking. She liked nothing better than spending time with her 9 grand children and 7 great grands.
Sandy was preceded in death by her late husband Ernest F Jensen
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Anna Chick (Garland) and Son, Stephen (Charlotte). Grand Children: Matthew, Erin, Garland, Brooke, Christopher, Katherine, Sandy, Kelly, and Amanda and great grand children: Knox, Cash, Holland, Winn, Hendrix, Noelle, and Jensen
Visitation will be held Monday, February 25, 2019 from 5pm-7pm in the Arlington Park Funeral Home Chapel, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32211. A celebration of her life will be held 10am, Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 8264 Lone Star Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32211, with Rev. David Sheffield officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Arlington Park Cemetery, 6921 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211.
