Luis Silan Panganiban, 92, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023. He was born on June 21, 1931, in Tambo, Indang, Cavite, Philippines. Louie, as he was affectionately known, will be remembered for his kind, funny, loving, gentle, and laid-back personality.
Louie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Remy (Teaño), his daughter Arlene Weaver (Panganiban), his son Kenneth, and his granddaughters Alyssa and Ashton Weaver. He is also survived by his sister Soledad Peñalba and multiple nieces and nephews in the United States, Canada, and the Philippines. Louie was preceded in death by his granddaughter Valerie Anne Weaver, his parents Arsenio and Zoila (Silan) Panganiban, his brothers Pedro and Eladio Panganiban, and his sister Magdalena Umali.
Louie proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years. After his military service, Louie had a successful career working as a cook at the Enlisted Club, and later on, in the supply department at the Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP), NAS Jacksonville.
In his free time, Louie enjoyed working in the garden, cooking, karaoke, playing solitaire on his iPhone, and trying his luck with Fantasy 5, Lotto, and scratch-off lottery tickets. These hobbies brought him great pleasure and relaxation.
A visitation will be held on September 14, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Arlington Park Funeral Home, located at 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211. The funeral service will take place on September 15, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at Arlington Park Cemetery.
Louie will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kind nature, sense of humor, and loving presence will be remembered and cherished. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
