Audra "Marcheta" (Javins) Hill of Jacksonville, Florida, died peacefully on January 29, 2023 at the age of 98. Marcheta was born on December 29, 1924, in Nellis, West Virginia to Noah and Maggie Javens. After graduation, she joined the Women's Army Corp during World War II and rose to the rank of First Sergeant. Upon completion of her service in the army, she married the love of her life, Joseph H. Hill, on October 8, 1947. They raised four sons, Joseph H. Hill, Jr., Thomas D. Hill, Timothy P. Hill, and David M. Hill.
Marcheta was active in her local community theater in Palatka, Florida where she enjoyed acting and performing in musicals. She and her best friend were founding members of the theater which currently known as the "Scarlett-Hill Theater." Marcheta also loved baking and she spent time in the kitchen making treats for her family and friends. Her famous "wacky cake" was a family favorite. Reading was also a passion, and Marcheta spent many hours devouring her favorite books. Marcheta loved adventure and she traveled globally to destinations such as Egypt and Austria.
Marcheta was preceded in death by her parents, 12 siblings, husband Joseph (1981) and her youngest son David (2011). She is survived by her sons, Joseph Jr. (Nancy), Thomas (Judy), and Timothy; grandchildren, Ashley Sims (Bryant), Laura Dixon (Joe), Taylor, Mackenzie, Spencer, Conner, and Emily Hill; and two great-grandchildren, Rayna and Charlie Dixon.
Her funeral service is being held on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Arlington Park Funeral Home chapel (6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida.)
A brief committal service for family only will follow at Arlington Park Cemetery.
