Marilyn Ruth Duffey (Kurry) peacefully passed away of prolonged illness at Community Hospice Baptist Medical Center on January 16th, 2023 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was 86, born on September 4th, 1936 in Mansfield, Ohio to John Clarence and Susan Mabel Kurry (Takos).
Marilyn lived a full life surrounded by generations of family. Family was everything to her; she loved nothing more than seeing everyone together and happy. On June 23rd, 1956 she and Lewis Evans Duffey Sr. married. They built their first home in Mansfield where they would go on to raise their four children. In June of 1970 they moved to Dunedin, Florida and seven years later set their roots in Jacksonville.
Marilyn leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Lewis Evans Duffey Sr.; her loving daughters, Debra Lynn Jones, Diane Louise Paruolo (Vincent), and Danette Loreen Higgins (Marty); her grandchildren, Susan Marie Jones Van Bibber (Mike), Kristen Michelle Palau, Michelle Diane Williams, Michael Alan Clement, Zachary Daniel Harriz, Zane Jeffery Morgan (Francisco), and Zara Elizabeth Christoff (Tyler); and her great grandchildren, Hanna Marie Van Bibber, Alyssa Lynn Jones, Jake Edward Van Bibber, Makenna Briann Means, Noah Madden DiMare, Alexa Grace Palau and Asher Odell Palau. She is preceded in death by her son, Lewis Evans Duffey Jr.; her parents, John and Susan Kurry; and her sisters, Suzanne Kunz, Lois Flaugher, and Patricia Paige.
Marilyn was a football fanatic; the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Ohio State Buckeyes were her main teams. She was a fierce competitor when it came to board games. She loved listening to Elvis, Celine Dion, and Patsy Cline. When she was able, Vegas was her escape. She loved playing Bingo and slots. She was passionate about spreading her wealth of knowledge and loved watching game shows. She was very proud of her collection of Santa Claus figures and the Christmas season brought a childlike glimmer to her eyes as she was able to display her Santas. Gemology was a career she had wished she had taken on. She could tell you all you wanted to know about precious stones. She always wanted a big family, and she achieved that. If there was one word used to describe Marilyn, it would be loved.
Marilyn's final resting place will be at Arlington Park Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. Arrangements have been entrusted to the direction and care of Arlington Park Funeral Home
