Marilyn Gail Guyer Poyner was born on April 12, 1939 to Irwin and Mabel Guyer in High Point, North Carolina and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 22, 2018.  She had a sister who was a year younger, Kaye Guyer.  Marilyn was always on the go and a friend to all, traits which followed her throughout her life.  She was taught by her parents to appreciate a deep faith in God, a faith she practiced by her actions and words throughout her long and meaningful life. She excelled at school and decided to become a teacher.  She attended High Point College (now High Point University) in High Point, North Carolina. She graduated with honors with a degree in education.  She used this degree to teach at all levels of elementary school and pre-school.  She also was an administrator and a hands-on leader of Terry Parker Baptist Church Pre-school. She taught each level of Sunday school in High Point, North Carolina and Jacksonville, Florida.

While at college in High Point, she met and married the love of her life, Walter Martin Poyner and they remained married for over 60 years, celebrating their 60 anniversary surrounded by their loving children William (Billy) and Lynn and their respective better halves, Michele and Richard. Michele and Billy made Marilyn's life complete by bringing Carlin Victoria, Finley Rose and Reed Wilson into the world. She will continue this 17 celebration of her grandchildren with the arrival of Cade Sanderlin Poyner. These grandchildren were the light of the lives of Marilyn and Martin.  To Marilyn every second with her grandchildren was pure joy, highlighted by the fact they also were being raised in a loving and Christian home.  Marilyn loved sports; football (the Gators and Jaguars), basketball (Carolina), baseball (the Gators) and golf (as a player).  But any sport became her favorite if played by her grandchildren.

She was always active with a wide circle of friends.  She played with her friends in the Hidden Hills Ladies Golf Association, played bridge, was in at least two book clubs at a time and even continued to work at her church after retiring from a long teaching career.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Kaye. She will be missed by all of those she taught, those who were her friends and, especially her family who all agree she is finally where she will find the peace and joy she deserves (and a perfect par 4 course).

A memorial service will be held in her honor Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 11am at  Monument Point Fellowship, 13720 Mt Pleasant Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32225 with Pastor John Phillips officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in her honor to Monument Point Fellowship, 13720 Mt Pleasant Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32225.
