Obituary of Marjory Rice
RICE
Marjory Louise Rodgers Rice, 92, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2008. She is remembered as a loving mother, dedicated grandmother, great-grandmother and caring friend to all who knew her.
Marjory was born on July 14, 1915 to the late Rea and Jen Rodgers. She was reared and attended school in Missouri. Marjory graduated from Park University in Parkville, Missouri with a degree in home economics. She also did graduate work in East Texas University. Marjory met her future husband, Russ while both were teaching in Winterset, Iowa. They traveled extensively during Russs 30 year Naval Career and retired after their last tour in Jacksonville. Marjory was a member of the PEO Sisterhood for 74 years; a charter member of Calvin Presbyterian Church; member of the Garden Club of Jacksonville and a volunteer with the Learn to Read Program.
Marjory is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years CDR Russell Coleman Rice, sister Betty Rodgers Hill Gundy and three brothers-in-law.
She is survived by her two daughters Susan Rice Cafaro (Jim), Nancy Rice Hill (Joe); grandchildren Troy Hallenbeck (Terri), David Tony Cafaro (Cindy), Alex Cafaro (Polina), Katy Cafaro, Ashley Hill Sinclair (Derek), Laura Hill; great-grandchild Evan Cafaro; sister Mary Bess Rodgers Freel and two nephews.
Marjory will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but in her 92 plus years she touched many lives and as a result she left this world a better place.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Rd. for a visitation in the funeral home chapel. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Calvin Presbyterian Church, 4050 Barnes Rd. Jacksonville. Special thanks to Comfort Keepers for their exceptional care of her.
