Obituary of Marylee Ratliff
Marylee Withers Ratliff, 72, passed away at her home on Monday, February 23, 2009. She was born on July 3, 1936 in Birmingham, AL, to the late Edmund and Caroline McGarity. After graduating from Auburn University in 1956, she and her husband, Buddy moved to Jacksonville where she began her teaching career with the Duval County School System. She touched and influenced many young lives, retiring after 30 years of service. Marylee was an avid football fan, proudly supporting the Auburn War Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars. She also loved her Fantasy Football League, where her knowledge of players and stats was well known. She was an active member of her community, serving as a past president of the Junior Women's Club and, along with her family, as a volunteer with the TPC since 1985. She will be missed at the 18th hole this year. Another of Marylee's favorite hobbies was playing bridge. She looked forward to her weekly games with her dear friends. Marylee is survived by her husband of 51 years, Elbert (Buddy); two sons David (Terri) and Dan (Renee); brother Ed (Ann); grandchildren Tiffany, Danielle, Josh and Brooke; great-grandson Aiden. She is also predeceased by a sister Catherine. Marylee will be remembered for her devotion to her family and friends, and her willingness to help others. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 P.M. at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road. Services will be held Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Arlington United Methodist Church, with burial following at Arlington Park Cemetery. The family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice.
