Marylou Rambus Crosby, 81, born July 9, 1935 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to Lewis Rambus and Caroline Smith Rambus, passed away June 24, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida.
With a grace seldom seen in this world, Marylou devoted her life to God, country, family, friends and those in need. Wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother were just a few of her roles in this life. She provided for nearly 70 years of service to the United States Navy between herself, husband and two oldest children.
After graduating high school in Luzerne, Pa, Marylou waited until her 18th birthday and enlisted in the United States Navy. During the Korean War she was working at Naval Station Philadelphia processing the induction of all the young recruits when a particular young man caught her eye. Two weeks later they were married. Once leaving the Navy she began raising a family. Her warmth, friendship and humor where shared by countless. She worked as a nursing assistant in numerous hospitals and nursing homes from Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida. A devout member of the United Methodist Church, she was church secretary, a leading member of the United Methodist Women and District Representative for the UMW. A member of the Red Hat Society and Jacksonville Jaguars Booster Club, Marylou was a friend you could count on.
She was preceded in death by both parents and her husband, David Crosby, AQ1, USN Retired..
Marylou is survived by her children; David L. Crosby, Bryon R. Crosby, John D. Crosby, Jeanne L. McDuffie and their families including 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
The Crosby family will receive friends for a Visitation/Viewing, 10AM-11AM, Saturday, July 1, 2017 in the chapel of Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida. A Graveside Blessing will immediately follow at Arlington Park Cemetery with First United Methodist Church of Starke Pastor Mike Moore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Northeast Florida Community Hospice which provided wonderful care for Marylou.
