Max Kenneth Schnitzer, 89, passed away on August 6, 2007. Born in Hudson, Michigan on November 6, 1917. Max graduated with a degree in Physics in 1940 from Hillsdale College, where he was a grid star on the football team. He was employed in the mortgage banking business for 28 years and retired from Stockton, Whatley, Davin & Company in 1983.

Max was a veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict where he served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. He received a combat infantryman badge, a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and 7 overseas service bars while serving in the Pacific Theater.

He enjoyed world travel, was an avid golfer, a sports enthusiast and loved a good game of gin rummy. His favorite activity was spending time with his family.

Max is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Wigent Schnitzer in 1964. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Betty Hancock Schnitzer; children, Christine Jones (Randy), Cheryl Claxton (JC), Michael Drohan (Karen), Deedee Stone (Harald) and Lisa Hazelton; grandchildren, Erin Claxton Soles (Ernest), Natilie Stone, Lauren Claxton Shivers (Bradley), Michael Stone, Matthew Dean, Brittany Stone, Pierce Hazleton, Jake, Jaycie, Jackson and Josh Jones and one great-grandson Ernest Soles, Jr.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 from 6-8:00pm in the chapel of Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, August 9th at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery where military honors will be rendered.
