Obituary

Maxine NeSmith Westbrook, 88, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born in Sycamore, Georgia to Isaac Lamar Nesmith and Carrier Bell Cromer on February 22, 1930.

She was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church since 1984 and prior to that Murray Hill Methodist Church.  Maxine was a Trustee, on the Church Council and member of the Parks-Wilcox, Ocean Road Sunday School class.  She retired from Southern Bell with 33 years and worked part-time at Coggin Pontiac GMC for many years. Maxine truly loved this job and the made many lasting friendships.  She volunteered for 15 years for the Gate River Run and loved the Gate girls, where she was lovingly referred as the "coleslaw police lady'.

Maxine will forever be remembered as a feisty little lady who volunteered for everything and loved her family. If you ever needed help, Maxine was there for you.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Maxine was preceded in death by both of her parents; loving husband, Bill Westbrook and son, Jerry Purcell.

She is survived by daughter, Brenda Jones (David), Jacksonville, FL; siblings, Issac Lamar NeSmith, Jr. (Barbara) Palatka, FL, Cortez NeSmith Purcell Ashburn, GA, Jimmy NeSmith  (LaRue) Ashburn, GA; grandchildren, Shannon Dayton (Jeff) Jacksonville, Fl., Scott Purcell  Atlanta, GA and Andy Purcell Ashburn, GA; great-grandchildren, David Taylor Dayton (Brittany) Jacksonville, FL, Adelyn Morgan Dayton Jacksonville, FL,  Jareth Purcell Ashburn, GA and Austin Purcell Tifton, GA and great-great grandchildren,  Caiden Taylor Dayton and Cameron Taylor Dayton.

A Graveside service will be held Friday, June 22, 2018 at 10 am in the Arlington Park Cemetery, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211 with ­­­­Reverend Barry Andrews officiating.
