Obituary of Michael Capizzi
Michael Anthony Capizzi, Sr., 79, passed away February 6, 2009. He was born in Palermo, Italy and immigrated to New York with his family when he was two years old. He has been a resident of Jacksonville since 1970. Mike served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict and went on to serve as a Drill Instructor at Paris Island. He proudly held memberships with many organizations including PGK Knights of Columbus Bishop Larkin Council 4727, PGK Bishop Kenny Council 1951, Fourth Degree Holy Trinity Assembly Council 2368; he was an officer with the American Legion Post 283, a member of the United States Marine Corps Drill Instructors Association and the Jacksonville Woodworkers Club. He loved to work in his shop and garden. Mike was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He worked with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Knights of Columbus Life Insurance and retired from Curtis Industries after which he worked with Arlington Toyota. He is preceded in death by his parents, Guiseppe and Antoinette Capizzi, his brother, John and his sister, Maria. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Irene Capizzi; son, Michael Capizzi, Jr. (Sarah)of Alpharetta, GA; daughter, Doreen Masters of Moody, AL; grandchildren, Lt. Michael Masters, USMC, Matthew Masters, Christopher Capizzi, Anthony Capizzi and Rebecca Schwartz; his brother, Joseph Capizzi (Mary); sister-in-law, Rose Capizzi and many nieces and nephews and a loving extended family. Mike was a man who loved his family and was always telling his grandchildren how proud he was of them. He will be dearly missed. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 11:00am at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery where military honors will be rendered. The family will greet friends on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00pm with at vigil service at 7:00pm in the chapel of Arlington Park Funeral Home.
