IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael James
Lapoint
November 21, 1972 – March 2, 2026
On March 2, 2026 Michael James Lapoint, 53, was unexpectantly called home to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida to his loving mother Marletta Jean Maass. He graduated from Alden Road Exceptional Center School in June 1993 with his high school diploma. Developmentally delayed Michael far surpassed all expectations as he embraced the job market. His exuberance and happy demeaner followed him in his job as a Bag Boy associate at Albertson's from 1993 to 2005 and Publix on Merrill Rd from 2005 to 2017. He was well known for his engaging personality and happy disposition, for he never met a stranger. Michael was always ready to talk extensively about any and all things Pokémon. He was very proud of his extensive collection of everything Pokémon from his window curtains to his many clothes and other items. He was most proud of the Pokémon oasis he made in his bedroom and the time he was able to spend sharing his love with anyone he came in contact with on his daily walks and explorations. Between Pokemoning, playing cards with his mother and playing video games his life was complete. He dreamed of one day winning the lottery (which he never played) and sharing his winnings with his mother and special friends. He was planning to take everyone on a cruise and pay the bills of his loved ones so they would have no worries in their lives. He had a heart of gold.
He is predeceased by his beloved stepdad William Maass (January 9, 2010), and leaves behind in deep mourning his biggest champion, his mother Marletta Jean Maass. He is survived by his adopted sister Delia Johnson and her family, his second family Tina and Steven Phillips and family, one stepbrother and two stepsisters, Aunt Cheryl Humphies, cousin Jeffrey (Glenda), numerous cousins and other relatives.
Flowers can be sent to the funeral home for visitation or directly to his mother, Marletta Jean Maass at The Fountains at Millcove, 9960 Atrium Way, Jacksonville FL 32255
