Mildred Jean Spharler, known by her family and friends as "Millie" and by her siblings as "Bibbie", passed away peacefully in her home on March 24, 2018. Millie was born on August 23, 1928 in Eden, North Carolina (previously known as Draper), to Claudia and Early Gillie. Millie is preceded in death by Edward Lee Wiggins (son), Claudia and Early Gillie (parents), Irvin and Wayne Gillie (brothers) and Inez Heath (sister). Millie is survived by Troy Max Spharler, Sr. (husband), Steve Spharler (son) and his wife Marni, Troy Max Spharler, Jr. (stepson) and his wife Martine, Joan Strong (stepdaughter) and her husband Jerry, and Donna Horwitz (stepdaughter), Justin Spharler (grandson), Anakin Spharler
(great-grandson), Calvin Gillie (brother) and his wife Edna, Francis Leake (sister) and her husband Bill, Janice Turner (sister) and her husband Robert and numerous nieces and nephews.
Millie was very active and loved helping others, which was very evident in her home, work, church and community. She was a Registered Nurse at University Hospital in the trauma center operating room, taught a class at Jones College and worked for the Visiting Nurse Association providing in home care. Additionally, it has been said, "Behind every great man is a better woman.", Millie untiringly proved this working alongside her husband in the church ministering to others. Millie was a beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend, loved by all. No words can accurately describe the heart of gold Millie had, she will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Arlington Park Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Arlington Park Funeral Home on Friday, March 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
