Obituary

Nancy Jean Powell earned her heavenly wings Wednesday July 28,2021. She was born Nancy Jean Revels on October 10, 1935 in Columbia, South Carolina to Dolly and Ernest Revels. Nancy was a graduate of University High School where she was on the school basketball team. She grew up in a large family and was preceded in death by her siblings: Mrs. Louise Stokes; Mrs. Rotha Simerly; Mrs, Eva Mae Areheart, Mrs. Juanita Crout; Mrs. Agnes Redick; Mrs. Dorothy Deese and two  brothers, Junior and Everett Browder.

Nancy married her sweetheart, Raleigh Powell, whom she leaves behind.  They were married 67 years and everyone could see the love and devotion they felt for each other. Nancy and Raleigh had 4 children, Cindy Clay, Randy Powell (Glenda), Pam Caster (Kenneth) and Darel Powell (Donna). Darel preceded his mother in death in 2020.  Nancy has 13 grandchildren, Allison Blount (Adam); Christopher Lowstuter (Jen); Rhandi Breden (Billy); Nicholas Caster, Bethany Brown; Raleigh Powell: Ryan Clay; Brooke Rains (Chris); Matthew Powell; Kyle Caster; Hannah Powell; Hayley Powell and Tyler Powell. Nicholas and Matthew preceded her in death and were waiting for their Mimi to join them in heaven.  She had 10 great grand children: Rachel; Maddie; Andrew; Gracie; Thomas; Laney; Emma; Harper; Aubree and Jaxon.
Nancy was a devoted navy wife and mother.  She moved with her husband to each port of call even though it meant relocating with four children.  Nancy faced every hardship valiantly and courageously and instilled strong family values and the love of God in each of her children.  She never met a stranger which made her perfect for the jobs she held during her lifetime including managing her son's plumbing office .  Nancy had quite a sense of humor and a heart of gold.  She proved this during the holidays when everyone she knew got a cream cheese pound cake. Nancy was not above rescuing animals and finding them new homes.  For the past 7 years, Nancy fought to recover from a life changing accident and the struggles that she faced every day.  She was the best wife and mom and when God called her home, she left a huge hole in our hearts.  We know she is safe, secure and free in the arms of the Lord.
