October 27, 1943 – February 12, 2022
Norbert Eugene-78-Gene Eberhardy went to heaven to his savior on February 12, 2022. Gene was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 27, 1943 , to Norbert John and Bonnie Mae (Duncan) Eberhardy. His family followed his father's job with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad moving to Jacksonville the summer of 1962. Here he met his wife Nela M Herron. They were married June 7, 1963. Gene is survived by his son Troy Mikell Eberhardy, his daughter Taylor Renee Eberhardy and grand-daughter Emersyn Renee; and his daughter Kristina Denise Eberhardy, daughters Faith Kristina Carter, great grandson Fletcher Jamison Powell, Anna Marlyn Carter and son Cameron James Carte r, grandsons Justin E and Shawn L Eberhardy and sisters Nancy Jane Mays, and Rita Kay Martling (Terry), all of Jacksonville. He was pre-deceased by his parents and brother Eric Van Eberhardy and h is son Ronnie E Eberhardy. He will be greatly missed by his family, cousins, friend, neighbors, and the Oasis Prayer Group.
Gene spent his early adult married life as a member if the Florida Army National Guard volunteering t o serve in Vietnam 1968-196 9 . He returned to be a founding member of The First National Rotagilla Band. This was a jug band honored by being selected as the Bi-Centennial band of Jacksonville with an appearance on The Midnight Special . Then God came into his life.
Those that knew Gene were mu c h aware o f his devotion to spreading the gospel of Christ. He used any conversation as a segue to witness about our need for repentance and salvatio n . Early in his walk with the Lord, Gene served the Lord as youth director, Sunday School Teacher and graduated with a Doctorate in Theology from Jacksonville Theological Seminary. He also ministered through a Christian Band-John the Baptist. For over 30 years Gene served as pastor to several churches. Most recently he has served 15+ years as pastor of Woodland Acres Community Church.
Arrangements are being handled by Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, 32211. Visitation with the family is Wednesday, February 16, 2022, 6-7:30 PM. The service is Thursday, February 17, 2022 , beginning at 2 PM with burial following immediately after the service. Officiating will be Pastor Bob Martin and Pastor Len Showalter.
