Norma Ruth MacLean Kirby (94) passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 26, 2022, in Jacksonville, Florida.
Norma was born August 6, 1927, to parents Charles Donald MacLean and Lucille Ruth MacLean in Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by husband Edwin Henderson Kirby, both parents, sister Jean MacLean Gully, and brother C. Donald MacLean, Jr.
Norma is succeeded by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and many friends.
Norma graduated from Landon High School and Jacksonville University, with an Associate in Arts degree.
She was an early member of the Professional Secretaries International, later known as the International Association of Administrative Professionals. Norma was one of the first 200 certified secretaries in the United States. Norma retired form the National Board of Pathology in Tampa, Florida.
She loved music and was in the choir of the churches wherever she lived. Norma was also active in children's programs.
Norma was a graduate of the 13 th Civilian Police Academy of Wakulla County Sheriffs Office in 2000 at 73.
She learned enough to make an emergency landing in Ed's plane (luckily, never needed).
Norma loved to travel, going to many places such as New York City, Hawaii, the Holy Land, Scotland, Austria, Cuba before the revolution, and Cuba many years later.
Norma remembered special days and occasions: birthdays, holidays, graduations, and weddings. She made quilts for many couples and babies. She had a way of making people feel special.
She worked to make the world a better place with her time, talent, and generosity.
Everyone who knew Norma has a story they could share. She was a loyal and loving daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
Arrangements are being handled by Arlington Park Funeral Home, located at 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville FL 32211. Visitation will be on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 10:00 AM, the Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, and will be followed by the Interment in Arlington Park Cemetery.
