Norman Hepburn Ritz born September 2, 1922, Ventnor, New Jersey. He was the son of Austin Louis Ritz from Wheeling, West Virginia and Cordelia Rita Price from Pleasantville, New Jersey. He was the 4th of five sons (Austin, Walter, John, Norman and Samuel). He was married for nearly 79 years to his high school sweetheart, Lillian Bertha Hess until her death in March 2019.
Norman grew up in the Ventnor and Atlantic City areas. He graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1940 and three days later he began his 36 year career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He started as a messenger and held positions as a Junior Clerk-Typist, Assistant and Fingerprint Classifier and Investigator General in the Liaison Section. 1949 he graduated from Benjamin Franklin University. In 1956 he became Special Agent and first served in Richmond, in 1958 he transferred to the newly opened Jacksonville Division. He was coordinator of the organized crime squad and relief supervisor for the Special Agent in Charge. He retired in 1976. In 1977 he became self-employed as a Private Investigator. He also became employed on a "part time" basis as a Special Investigator for the State of Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission handling serious complaints concerning county, circuit and Florida Supreme Court Judges, and also with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Jacksonville to examine gambling evidence seized by the local F.B.I. Office for court testimony.
While living in Kentland, Maryland in the early 1950's Norman became involved in the Kentland's Citizen's Association and served as an officer. He also served as trustee for Kentland Elementary School. After his FBI retirement he was involved in the FBI Florida Crown Chapter where he served as chair for five years and helped host two Regional Conferences.
Norman died November 5th at his home in Yulee, Florida at the age of 100. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian and is survived by his children Carolynn (Dale), Janet (Marty), Lois (Jack), Jessica Jeanne (Jim) and Norman (Brenda), 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
