Obituary of Odessa Worthington

Odessa Worthington, 86, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday January 11, 2009 with her loving family surrounding her. A visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2009 from 10:00-1:00a.m. at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida with at graveside memorial service following at 12:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, officiated by Pastor Wayne Young. Odessa was born October 16, 1922 in Covington County, Alabama. She enjoyed a career as a nurse and a homemaker taking wonderful care of many family members including her mother, step father and husband of 56 years. She was a kind and loving mother to four children, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Worthington) Ploeg of Mims, FL; sons J.R. Worthington (Pep); Robert Worthington (Peggy) of Jacksonville, FL; Benjamin Worthington (Nita) of Homer, GA; grandchildren Shelley Beville (Mike) of Mims, FL; Brent Worthington, Robby Worthington, Joey Worthington of Jacksonville, FL, Christina (Worthington) Mers of Ocala, FL and eight great grandchildren; and her sister Vivian Wyllie of Montgomery, AL. Odessa was predeceased by her husband Marion Hawkins Worthington, Sr.; parents Alfred and Shelley Christiansen; brother J.B. Aplin and grandson Lance Worthington.
