Obituary of Patricia Haney

Mrs. Patricia Ann Haney, married 59 years to Navy Chaplain John C. Haney, joined the Church Triumphant one week after her 81st birthday. Born in Rochester, N.H., she devoted her life to teaching, being a Pastor's wife, then Navy Chaplain's spouse until her death. She established programs of Christian education in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Ohio and Florida. She found time to counsel Navy/Marine Corps wives wherever the Navy sent them for 30 years of active duty followed by twenty two years as retired Navy volunteers.

She led the intensive five year "Disciple" bible study course for the Arlington United Methodist Church, continuing to inspire until her death. Many observed, "To know Pat is to love Pat!"

The United States Maine Corps recognized her service to Marine families over the years with a citation from Commanding General F.C. Cassity, USMC Camp Lejeune, N.C. "Patricia Ann Haney, you have earned the grateful appreciation of our entire community for your unselfish, faithful and devoted services, your support, resourcefulness, patience and caring years in the history of the Officer's Wives Club." Admiral John McNamara, Chief of Navy Chaplains added his "grateful appreciation for your unfailing support and understanding which helped make possible your husband's lasting contribution as a Navy Chaplain.

Commanding Officer, Captain R.A. Marguiles spoke his tribute to Patricia on behalf of the Navy medical community, Naval Hospital, Camp Lejeune: "Her unfailing support and understanding helped make possible her husband's lasting contribution to the nation. Truly, this couple exemplifies a team effort throughout their respective careers." "Semper Fidelis"

A quiet, gentle, gracious lady whose smile illumined every room she entered, she was truly a Christian "full of grace and truth." Well, she might say of herself, "I have fought the fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith." "Semper Fidelis"

Patricia Ann is survived by daughter Debbi Ann Weida Haney, son John Stephen Haney and his wife Paula, five grandchildren: Ryan Michael Weida, Tonya, Jessica, Olivia and Allie Haney, two great grandchildren: Anna Marie and Mathew Isaiah and her husband John C. Haney.
